Objective:  Flood plane data is exploited to discover (%) of route(s) which are prone to hazardous conditions on road ways in times of prolonged precipitation.

The following data was sourced from (1)

and compiled with Arc Map:

Route data was clipped to place emphasis on Pierce County, WA.  Flood plane information combined from the previous sources presented a hierarchical stage with highlighted flood-ways and catchment basins.  These feature were considered in categorizing Flood Hazards along route and a final product addresses the analysis objective.

​

It is observed that of the approximately 626 miles of routes that make up Pierce Transit, approximately 6 miles (.94%) exist on a known flood-way.  In total, approximately 80 miles of the route may have up to a 20% chance of flooding.
